did you read all those other posts? and whats this about using sprint for an entire mission

PLUS- this forum could be classified as one GIGANTIC tutorial if you know what to look for. I would suggest:

-Searching for W/mo builds (proabably the most common, definately the easiest to learn)
-Researching (reading) up on some of the skills available to your class(s) and which might prevail in the multitude of tough-spots you're currently in, and will be in for the rest of the game.

Once you get the hang of it you'll be fine, oh and one more thing...

The creatures arn't over-powered, there are some locations you are not supposed to reach till a certain point in the storyline, hence they will be far more difficult to reach if you're corner cutting.

1.Follow the storyline if it's you're first time through
2.Until you get a grasp on the game mechanics deleteing characters and starting afresh every time it gets hard isnt going to help.
3.THE GAME ISNT THAT HARD!!! (granted there are a few missions who's metaphorical throats i'd love to shove my hand down)

cheers and good luck

Why would you delete a character anyway? The only permanent things are: primary class, name and appearance. You can change everything else. If you perceive yourself to have a "screwed up build", you can change it.

No, Guild Wars is a PvP game with a Pve element! Thats why 99% of skill balances revolve around PvP and why those 99% of changes piss off PvE'ers

OK As you said you have already read that upon reaching Beacons Perch, Lornars Pass is above your level..you said you were lvl 15 right... so thats covered

For starters follow the quests especially the Primary Quests. They will guide you through the storyline from mission to mission.

Tutorial... Did you not pay attention in Pre-Searing Ascalon where you started?? not to mention the Book that came with the game... (and before everyone jumps me about it...) yes not the biggest help but the book does have some info in it. And as asp1988 said this forum( and others like guildwiki.org and gwonline.net) could be considered one large tutorial. Heck there are step-by-step walk throughs for most( if not all) of the missions and quests.

Now if you are saying that at level 15 you are underpowered in the Kryta area against the AI enemies, you are seriously doing something wrong. At lvl 15 with standard hench party it should be a breeze. Are you distributing your Attribute points, doing the skills quests(here is a link for skills quest info: http://gw.gamewikis.org/index.php/Skill_Quests ), upgrading armor and equipment?? Are you going out solo.. no henchies or humans?? Here is a link for the section of these forums for Builds: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/f...splay.php?f=17

Do Fractions and Nightfall play any differently from Prophecy?
first of all its Factions not fractions. Pretty much in all 3 if you are the 'appropriate' level for the area you are in, yes, the mobs will be anywhere from same level as you to 8- 10 levels higher depending on the area.

Yes that is an indication that your party is high enough in level to move on to a higher lvl area. If you are 6 or more levels higher than the mobs you won't get xp.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and sorry about the typos and anything else misunderstood. I'm not doing anything solo only--it is always with the max hench I can get--now in North Kryta Province that is five--fighter, brawler, monk, healer, and the cultist. I said or meant to say 'out of balannce level battles' (which still may not be the right description) because one mob in one area of North Kryta Province will overwhelm the party in short order and then in another location the opposite occurs and we overwhelm the mob for 0 EX.

I only used the Sprint skill long enough to get away with the box in the Gates of Kryta Mission Bonus from those ghosts--a real painful mob to encounter anywhere at this point.

I find myself wanting to follow walls and mapping areas for the cartography title--big mistake. And this happened several times in North Kryta Province after writing down on paper "Do Not Map For Cartography Title!!" It should stick one of these days.

I realize I shouldn't be describing my party as Solo+Hench but rather it should be Hench Party and one day Hero & Hench (H&H). Although I have tested solo it has never worked out fighting mobs since the mob size hasn't seemed to change any and the W/Mo that is doing all the fighting then needs someone to heal him up often. Using 'Solo' must have been very misleading to everyone.

The character I killed off months ago now was a W/E and I couldn't change the E to Mo then yet. I found Elementalist as a secondary useless and longed for the Monk with resurrect.

Today, I'm going to try to get back on track in the game and work on my W/Mo+Hench Build. I've been using the same skills now for the last 10 or so levels it seems and there must be some good changes I could make. One thing I noticed this time around with the W/Mo that I didn't notice with the W/E is that my W energy gets drained all the way down. I have been initiating attacks wrong with Power Attack. When energy is drained Power Attack and some others do nothing and my battle is in a mess then! I'd be a lot better off I think engaging first with the Space Bar?

I have tried to focus on Quests too. I went after Lord Timot in Reversing the Skales and got into a real mess with those "smoking ghosts". Up to now I've been able to complete everything in quests, missions, and cartography without much trouble and sometimes at -60% DP too. Time for some sort of change now and no longer mapping helps the burden of course but is no solution to the real game challenges.

Currently I've been putting everything into Strength 10, Swordsmanship 8, and Tactics 4+1 and ignoring Healing Prayers 0, Smiting Prayers 0, and Protection Prayers 0. I've been running my new W like my old W, ignoring the secondary again.

One general skill question... Purge Conditions says it removes all conditions from target ally. That means I have to target an ally and cannot use it on myself right? I need to use skills that apply to the pc foremost don't I?

You can use Purge Conditions on yourself, you are an ally of your self. Skills that can't self-target say target OTHER ally (emphasis mine).

A PvP Element they spend pretty much a year doing artwork, maps, missions and linking it all together with a story, with cut-scenes (now with added lip-synch) and the fact that Gaile Gray never seems to show up at Great Temple or Balthazar (available to all) instead of Kamadan (available to NF owners only)? Also note that with each new chapter, PvP gets what? A campaign-exclusive PvP arena, 4 or 5 maps to go with it, 2 RA maps, 2 TA maps, 4 Guild Halls and... that's it.

Two things I feel need to be said here, the first being that I'm fairly sure the PvP community doesn't care about Gaile Gray's information, so her showing up in Great Temple would be a complete waste (also, do you really want her to go to the cyber-cex central of GW to relay game information? I certainly don't). The second being that PvP players don't need a bunch of pretty-princess content (this coming from a guy that does still PvE on occasion simply because of that pretty-princess graphical content) every game outside of new skills and arenas, because PvP players play to PvP, not gawk at the scenery. It's an entirely different ballgame.

Thing is, the Battle Isles happens to be a core area, meaning anyone - including PvEers - can get to it, regardless of campaigns on their accounts. It would sound more valid than just visiting only those with NF on their accounts.

As for the cyber-<ahem>... I've been in Great Temple Int 1, both on a normal day and during the Mesmer Wintersday Gathering last year. If I remember right, it was kinda bereft of that. Then again it was mostly Mesmers.

For a build we really need to not only see you attribute point spread but what skills you are using and what weapons you have equipped (include damage, requirement, and it's mods). And, since you are having this much trouble probably specific on your armor (which kind and what is the armor rating).

That spread may be just fine or it may be horrid - for all we know you are using your strength only for armor penetration and have a req9 sword (in which case you would be having problems).

If they are fine then I suggest you take someone up on the offer to play with them for a while as you may just not be pulling mobs, aggroing everything in sight, and not letting everyones energy regen. That will also kill a well put together group. To note, you sprinting past the mobs generally gets the rest of the henchies (who do not have sprint) killed - better to just skip the bonus until later.

As to the PvP/PvE argument I assumed that the Devs pretty much answered that one. Original design was PvE, PvP was added second, they see them as equal. It must be frustrating to read this type of argument when even one of the mods for one of the larger fan-sites can not even get it straight and is being rude over it.

First off this thread is PvE only. Please take the PvP elsewhere.
I have changed my build all around now following the 'W/Mo Full Vigor Paladin' format in GuildWiki. GuildWiki is invaluable, the manual, the tutorial...and this forum.

Several things are not right yet or attainable:
I don't have Hundred Blades so I'm leaving in the Healing Signet.

Current Attribute distribution is Swordsmanship 9, Healing Prayers 6, Strength 8, and Tactics +1. Eventually to be 12 +1 +1, 10, and 8 +1 and Tactics +1 will probably go away.

The armor set is 50 Gladiator, +1/+2/+3 Energy depending on the item, armor +20 vs physical damage. This set doesn't focus on 'while enchanted' which I will consider when I need to upgrade next if I have the choice.

Weapon is Long Sword 10-14, +15% dmg while hexed, +15% dmg while enchanted, +20% customized. Is that all stackable so the damage is actually 15-21 if I'm hexed and enchanted?

The shield is Tall Shield armor 10, Health +21.

Vigorous Spirit icon shows an 'up triangle' in the upper right corner. Coundln't find or missed finding what it means--please explain? I haven't tested it yet but suspect it might infer that I can use the skill prior to engaging in a battle--outside of a battle?

I haven't added any mods to anything and only spent one skill point and some gold for Galrath Slash. I'm currently lvl 16.6. I'm could enter Lion's Arch but have been working all around it.

It is time for trials to see how the new me works.

In Lion's Arch you could buy a new sword from the weaponsmith Grahame - you can get a 14-20 sword here. Or, if you have the patience and a bit of cash you could maybe buy a maximum damage sword from another player (but personally I wouldn't bother trying).

Your shield is fine for now and you won't get a much better one from collectors in Kryta. You might be able to buy an AL16 shield from another player.

Lion's Arch armour is AL 50. You can get AL59 armour in Bergen Hot Springs and Beetletun when you find those places - they aren't far away.

I think the little triangle in the skill icon means its an enchantment.

First off, NEVER underestimate Tactics. Ever. Using "Watch yourself!" and Soldier's Defense I can keep up a 75% chance to block forever with only a 2 second delay between recharge. As long as I dont run out of adrenaline that is. And Healing Signet is about a bajillion times better than Hundred Blades. HB is only useful if you're surrounded by 15 enemies and you have a vamp sword... I'd keep it and invest heavily into tactics. Take some out of strength to finance it.

Far too many people seem to forget that Sever Artery, Gnash, Galrath, Final Thrust is an amazing combo. I highly reccomend it.

I dont think there are any War armors that focus on "While Enchanted"

That weapon can't possibly have a +15% while hexed AND enchanted.

The "Up Arrow" means you're enchanted.

It's not too bad a build - probably not my cup of tea but it should keep you alive.

You are a long ways from Hundred Blades - that is in the final mission of the game. Vigorous Spirit will work better with it, I would use the axe variant and just swap a normal axe attack for Triple Chop.

Quote:

You are not using tactics at all so no reason for the +1. If you have that from a rune I would suggest replacing it with either a Vitae or Attunement (vitae is my suggestion). Make sure you have the best absorption rune also (though remember it only helps against physical damage). As soon as you can afford it make sure you use a vigor rune also.

Quote:

There is no Warrior armor that uses "while enchanted", only some shield mods do. Glads is fine. Check a map of Kryta of go on into Beetletun. Though there isn't a *need* to upgrade, I did my first time through the game - it helps while you are learning.

Someone pointed out that you have access to better. I would still suggest switching to an Axe build. Plus you can not have both +15% while hexed and +15 while enchanted - they are exclusive of each other. For this build you will want "while enchanted", or better yet +15 while health is greater than 50%. You will do best to have two of whatever weapon you choose, one physical and one elemental too switch based on your target (for instance, ranger class is much more resistant to elemental, warrior resistant to physical). I normally try for an "of defense" suffix, though there are many other choices out there. If you want take a third then that is usually either zealous or vampiric (depending on which you prefer) and have a longbow in the fourth slot (doesn't matter the stats - you just use it to pull).

Quote:

That should do you well, hard choice exactly when loosing that +21 health is worth better armor.

Blue up triangles are enchants, a little sword is a weapon spell, purple down arrows are hexes, grey down arrows are conditions - there may be other colors, I can not recall off the top of my head. Essentially the "up" means buff, the down means debuff.

Might as well enter, no reason not too - especially since LA has quite a few quests and nice tasty EXP.

Before you purchase a skill check GW and see if it is available from a quest first - if not feel free to purchase away, you will have more than enough skill points for your first few builds. By the time you really start worry about them you are trying to learn skills anyway so they are not wasted.

In the end, I would personally go with either the Triple Chop PvE tank (both Triple Chop and Flail can be replaced by prophecies only skills) or the cleave PvE soldier (just use another axe attack for cleave until you get there - I beat prophecies the first time with a variant of the cleave build). I think you are better off in the tactics line than the monk heal line - let the monks cast healing prayers and many of the tactics line also give party buffs.

If you need a skill that is only purchasable late game then it is easy to unlock. Go to Balth's Isle and do the PvP training. You will quickly be lead to "practice" where you play against the AI - it is simple to get 2000 faction a day, unlock a few skills, and then all skill trainers will sell it to your player.

@ratsneve: go to http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

then, plan a night on which you will click the "Random Page" link over and over again until you have sucked in most that you need to know. Also, go to Warrior Skills Quick Reference, that'll help a lot. Next mission, try to get into a group because if you go through the game with henchies and only henchies, ur taking the MMO out of MMORPG. You will have zero communication with people, which, IMO, makes the game infinitely more fun. The aspect of pressing skills to heal/help/attack someone that is across the world amazes me, and most of the time, you will find that players are more, for loss of a better word, LIVE. they dont just ignorantly follow you (which is sometimes better than what you get from humans lol). They INTERACT with you, and that's what the game is all about. Personally, without other people, I would quit GW and go back to playing Kingdom Hearts 2. Hope this helped, and just have fun with the game. And remember the Golden Rule of All Warriors: Never Use Frenzy While Using Healing Signet (NUFWUHS).

have fun,

Default Lornar's Pass - Need help!

Been playing NF for about 3 months and finally got Proph (and Factions). Just started on Proph and been basically running my ranger around. I want to get to Drok's and have been trying to fight my way down with heros/henchies (btw: level 10?! - wtf?). All my guys are leveled with maxed out weaps, runes/insignias, etc. - I can get through most areas w/o problems. But, I am totally stuck at that southern part of Lornar's, almost to the next zone. This has been one of the hardest areas I've played so far (alone). I've been to U/W and FoW with humans/heros, but that's with 8 people. The problem is you get rez'd way back up at Beacon's Perch, which SUCKS! Knowing you're running back with -60%dp, all the waaaay back down to where you got wiped is so friggin' frustrating. Used up all my clovers, suppose I can buy more but too late once you're into it ... The area I'm stuck in is where that necro boss is with all of the killer dwarve monsters. I'm pretty sure this is quite close to the next zone which makes it that much more frustrating! What I did during my 3-hour attempt to get past this area was keep to planting Dunkoro (for rebirth purposes) way back away from aggro then keep pulling the boss to us, but with 4 lev 20's at 60%dp (and comprimised energy levels) and quickly dead lame-duck henchies - it's been quite the effort as the big mob won't break themselves up. To make things worse the stupid boss gets almost killed the mob rushes. Some clever programmers behind this one . One silver lining though, is that once everything on the way down has been killed (during that session), the run back is easy - if you manage to avoid the little frost wurm area!!! Does anyone have help/advice based on your experience. Would appreciate it.

TIA, ign --> Argeris of Melmat (R/whatever)

What I did during my 3-hour attempt to get past this area was keep to planting Dunkoro (for rebirth purposes) way back away from aggro then keep pulling the boss to us, but with 3 ( - Dunkoro) lev 20's at 60%dp (and comprimised energy levels) and quickly dead lame-duck henchies - it's been quite the effort as the big mob won't break themselves up.
